Zen Training is a book for Zen practitioners who like to study. It offers a world of detailed information on how to practise Zazen. Body posture, the psychology of attention, breathing techniques, practising with MU, Sekida describes it in detail.

Common notions in Zen such as tanden, samadhi, koan practice and kensho are explained. The book is also well known for its analysis of our consciousness into thought impulses or ‘nens’. A chapter on ‘Laughter and Zen’ is a refreshing look on the role of humor in Zen.

Not an easy book for beginners nor for more advanced practioners, but very much worth while.
