Osho and teacher ordinations During a special ceremony at Noorder Poort on April 7 2002, Jiun Hogen Roshi has ordained Jishin Hendriks, Soan Poor and Enko Heynekamp as Osho and Doshin Houtman as Dharma teacher. After having expressed their insight into the nature of self by a teisho, all celebrants put on their special robes. The Oshos in our school wear a mustard yellow kesa (a mantle made of little pieces of cloth) and rakusu (a special piece of cloth hung around the neck) and the Dharma teachers brown ones.
 New Cook The Dutch Zen center the Noorder Poort has a new cook. Michael Sellmann will start working in the kitchen at the end of July. Michael is a professional cook from Germany where he has practiced Soto Zen for many years. He will work and live at the Noorder Poort. Daniël, who until Michael arrives bears the scepter in the kitchen, will leave the Noorder Poort in august. He will go to college in Groningen to become a nurse. Last January Daniël, at that time still known as Kishin Homon, finished his Zen training and laid down his monk robes.

Animals at the Noorder Poort Since December 2001 the Noorder Poort has two new residents: the Shetland ponies Nina and Lola. They were a birthday gift for Jiun Hogen Roshi, who enjoys very much taking care of them. The other day when she went into the shed to get some hay for the ponies, she discovered to her great surprise a foreign mother cat with five little baby cats in the hay!
